There is a lot of stigma behind traditional smoking and flavours of vaping, especially because of its relation to mouth and lung cancers, the foul smell, and causing impotence. Cigarette manufacturers have taken time to develop alternative forms of nicotine consumption in ways that entice the youth and the new generation of teens.
This is where vaping comes in a modern and cool way to take nicotine through small handheld electronic devices that contain nicotine. These vaping products, including e-cigarettes, contain a liquid form of pure nicotine and other chemicals and flavors. These flavors especially entice the youth, and because of less stigma surrounding the use of e-cigarettes, over 80 % of users are teenagers and the youth.
There is, however, a lot of false misconceptions and information regarding vaping products. Here are five facts that the e-cigarette manufacturers are deliberately hiding from you:
- Vaping is just as addictive as traditional tobacco smoking.
Despite rumors and information regarding e-cigarettes and other vaping products, they are no less addictive than normal tobacco cigarettes. In fact, most vaping products have nicotine equal to an entire pack of cigarettes in a single cartridge. That means, when you smoke one cartridge, you have consumed the same amount of nicotine that is in 20 cigarettes.
Moreover, vaping products come in various strengths, with some strengths ten times the amount in a single pack of cigarettes. The risk of addiction to normal tobacco cigarettes, according to FDA, is 32 %. By consuming several times more nicotine than normal cigarettes, your risk of addiction multiplies. This means the risk of addiction to vaping products is higher than normal tobacco cigarettes.
- There are no health benefits or fewer safety risks with Vaping.
While it is true that vaping products contain fewer chemicals and contaminants that are found in normal tobacco cigarettes, they do not pose less risk of causing cancers or lung infections. Normal cigarettes contain over 7000 different chemicals that are inhaled into the lungs and, over time, cause their deterioration. However, the main active ingredient in both most e-cigarettes and normal tobacco cigarettes is nicotine. Nicotine in your body increases your chances of getting cardiac abnormalities and lung infections.
- There has been no research to suggest that vaping can help one quit smoking.
Despite many people in the media saying that vaping can help heavy smokers quit smoking, little research suggests that this is true. Vaping products only got into the market in 2007, and to date, little research has been conducted to suggest that it helps smokers quit smoking. For youths who have never smoked before, vaping leads them to start traditional tobacco smoking.
- Vaping has more detrimental effects on your mental health than traditional smoking.
Due to the higher concentration of nicotine in vaping products, the brain is quickly overwhelmed with a much stronger nicotine concentration than in normal tobacco smoking. This means the risk of mental health degradation is higher with vaping than with traditional smoking. This is especially true for teens and youths whose brains are still developing. Normal tobacco contains several thousand chemicals, which may help dampen nicotine’s effects, which is not the case with vaping since it uses a pure form of nicotine.
- E-cigarettes are not FDA approved.
Different manufacturers of vaping products like e-cigarettes use different chemicals in making the cartridges. This variety in chemical composition has made it impossible for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct proper tests to investigate the health effects, especially with booming black market products. This has led the FDA to publicly state that vaping is harmful, and the only way to avoid the bad health effects is to quit vaping.
