I advocate a dynamic stretching warmup before resistance training - cardio & static stretching both impair performance during a high intensity resistance training workout. Cardio would increase blood flow, heart rate, muscle elasticity but it also impairs speed/power/strength performance. A brief dynamic stretching/calisthenic warmup gives us the benefits of a cardio warmup with improved joint preparation...all without the negatives of a cardio warmup

Thanks for the comment..it makes me realize that I need to do an article on warming up pre-workout

Hey Doug.

Just wanna say that I'm glad you've connected with Jill Miller and Kelly Starrett. I've been following and learning from them for some time.

Good stuff.

BTW, can truly relate to your statement about betting bruised and battered over the course of decades of running, jumping and overall banging about. As we grow older, the mobility capabilities that Jill and Kelly teach will be much more valuable than adding another 10 pounds to one's bench press.

Yep.

Sorry to hear it Doug, but totally understandable. I have also been in a situation where something that was supposed to be fun becomes work, and when that happens you gotta step back.

I've been using your BBW for nearly 2 years now, and I'm currently revisiting the 2011 workouts. I was wondering if you might have any information about how you designed the program so that I may be able to create my own workouts. Let me know.

Thanks again for all the great content you have posted on the site over the years. I've always felt that your site presented honest and accurate fitness information, which unfortunately is rare on the internet. Be well.

I am a nurse practitioner-- and I can tell you first hand that NO ONE who is obese-- likes having this problem. Many have tried every diet- & excerise program in the world-- only to gain back the weight. I truly believe their will be a scientific break through sometime soon of the true cause of obesity-- whether is be a hormone or enzyme lacking or a combination of many problems for the millions of people who suffer from this disease. Certainly our culture has gotten quote " Less active" kids play outside much less than they did 40 years ago when I was a kid. But to blame or finger point at people is not helping anyone. But one thing for sure this joke of a Congress that we have-- is not helping matters in regards to research into this issue for the many other things that need further research. Let's just try to work together-- or play nice in the sandbox PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Glad I subscribed to this and I was updated to Justin's reply!!

Yes, my concern all along was that American insurance companies wouldn't have a way to do this. Interestingly enough, not long after Doug's post, I saw Walmart's announcement that they've partnered with Humana to promote the "Great for You' food products line with a discount that DOES include the fresh fruit and produce section.

I think there are two factors here: First of all, when you're WALMART you get to do whatever you want. Partner with Humana for anything and the PR for both corporations will be FANTASTIC. Second, Walmart can control everything within their own stores. They can identify the "Great for You" items, including fresh items, within their own pricing systems. Personally, I think they're going to sell a helluva lot more low sugar ketchup than fresh tomatoes!

I wrote an article about the Walmart "Great for You" program back in December:

Yes, my concern all along was that American insurance companies wouldn’t have a way to do this. Interestingly enough, not long after Doug’s post, I saw Walmart’s announcement that they’ve partnered with Humana to promote the “Great for You’ food products line with a discount that DOES include the fresh fruit and produce section.

I think there are two factors here: First of all, when you’re WALMART you get to do whatever you want. Partner with Humana for anything and the PR for both corporations will be FANTASTIC. Second, Walmart can control everything within their own stores. They can identify the “Great for You” items, including fresh items, within their own pricing systems. Personally, I think they’re going to sell a helluva lot more low sugar ketchup than fresh tomatoes!

I wrote an article about the Walmart “Great for You” program back in December:
